Longing for a Psalm 51 Heart

Note: This post contains affiliate links.

Are you longing for a Psalm 51 heart, single mom? I hope so! God’s Word is where we need to run to when we want to get clean with Him. His Word is filled with so much richness! One of my favorite chapters to read is Psalm 51 (a Psalm of David).

Although this chapter is highly convicting, it’s also filled with so much beauty–so many valuable lessons to be learned. I don’t know about you, but I fall short so many times. There are times I need God to give me a good old-fashioned spanking to bring about that peaceable fruit of righteousness (Hebrews 12:11) in my life.

It is my heart’s desire to please the Lord in all I do. But as I walk this Christian walk, there are times I wander away from where I should be. Through God’s Word, the Holy Spirit reveals to me where I have fallen, and I run to God in prayer and to His Word.

Bible

Oh, how I long for a Psalm 51 heart! I desire a heart that longs to be completely clean from the inside out. I want a life that’s full of joy no matter what the circumstances may be.

That’s My Middle Name

Oftentimes when we think of sin, we think of major gross sins such as adultery, stealing, murder, and so on. And as good Christian moms we say to ourselves,”I’m not living in sin.”

“I’m certainly not involved in adultery, stealing, or any wicked thing!” That’s great if your life is free and clear from these outward sins. But what about worry? Ouch! This hits home for me! Sometimes I wring my hands in worry. I typically (although I try not to) worry about EVERYTHING!!! Since I was not given a middle name at birth, I think I will just go ahead and add Worry as my middle name. 😕

I worry if my kids will turn out right, what’s for dinner next week (get that…next week??!!), when I drive around and watch distracted drivers on their cellphones (which is one of my biggest pet peeves…drives me crazy!!!), and so many other things. I don’t want to, but I do.

God’s Little Reminder

God always has a way of reminding His children what sin truly is. Sin is anything outside of faith–plain and simple. Worry is as much a sin as any other sin. The Bible says that all unrighteousness is sin (I John 5:17). God makes no apology about it.

When we live in sin, we are not pleasing the Lord. He will always love us no matter what we do, but if we live in sin our relationship with the Lord is distant. When we worry, we are doubting instead of trusting the Lord. God is a Holy and Just God.

God is in Control

It’s not God’s will for a Christian to worry. We worry (or at least I can speak for myself) frantically about things that are beyond our control. God is in charge of our total being (everything concerning us). He wants us to trust Him in the things we cannot control.

We cannot have sweet fellowship with God when we are living in sin. It’s vital that we turn from the sin of worry. Acknowledge the fact that worry is a sin (Psalm 51:3), admit that it is against God (vs. 4), and ask for cleansing (vs. 7-10).  When we come to this point, we can we find restoration and joy (vs. 12).

Create in Me a Clean Heart Lord

If you struggle with worry, I challenge you to read Psalm 51 today. Meditate on these Words inspired by a Holy, loving God. He wants each of us to live a clean life. Once we are clean, we can teach our children the ways of the Lord (vs. 13). Hey single mama! God sees all your worry and anxiety. He knows the struggles you have raising your kids alone. Give every worry to Him. Your children are counting on you.

They need to see a living example of what it means to have the right heart towards God. They need to see your faith lived out daily. Are your children important enough for you to to get clean? Let’s have a broken heart (vs. 17) concerning our sin of worry.

I hope this post will encourage someone today to overcome the sin of worry. Let me know how this post has helped you.
