Adjusting to the Seasons of Life

Note: This post contains affiliate links.

To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven (Ecclesiastes 3:1).

In life, we go through various seasons. Some seasons are filled with joy, others are filled with a sense of heaviness.

As I write this post, my heart is a bit overwhelmed! A week ago today, my family and I traveled three hours away to take my oldest son to college.

It’s been difficult at times since he’s been gone. When I returned home, I sat on his empty bed and looked at his graduation display board in tears. Let me just stop right here for a moment while I cry a little…😒

Seasons of Change Can Be Good

Adjusting to different seasons in life can be very overwhelming, especially for single moms. Always realize life changes whether we like it or not. Nothing remains constant in an ever-changing world.

Some changes can be a good thing even if it seems like it will break us. Difficult seasons in life can mean tremendous periods of growth in our spiritual lives. Whether you’re dealing with a rebellious teen, a sick child (or your own failing health), the death of a loved one, or any other major catastrophe in your life, fret not–a new season of hope will one day come. The troubles you face are only temporary. There are good seasons and bad seasons we all must go through.

It is during the stormy, turbulent seasons that we find peace, comfort, and strength from the Lord. God does not always send rain. He also gives us sunshine to light our way on life’s uncertain journey.

There are times to be thankful for change. If life always remained the same, we would either give up in total despair if things were always difficult, or forget about the God who made us if things were always going our way. So when you look at change in that sense, it can be good!

My Bittersweet Season

As I mentioned earlier, we journeyed to my son’s new home for the next four years (of course we will have him during the holidays and summer). It was a bittersweet moment, to say the least. There’s a part of me that is so excited for his new journey!

I’m looking forward to what the Lord has for him in the future. It is my earnest prayer that he would grow closer to the Lord during this time.

But then, there’s a huge part of me that longs to have my “little boy” back. If you’ve ever experienced a child going off to college for the first time, I know you can relate.

My Prayer Has Become a Reality

Since he’s homeschooled all of his life, making the decision for him to go away to college was a major leap of faith. I’ve always wanted all of my children to further their education at a Christian College–a place that would reinforce the biblical teaching they’ve received at home and through their local church. This has been my dream and prayer for many years.

Thankfully, this dream has become a reality! I’m forever grateful to the Lord for allowing my son to attend a Christian college. I know, without a doubt, that he is where God wants him to be. And it pleases this Mama to know her son is having the time of his life!

As I begin this new season–a time of experiencing both joy and pain, I have confidence in knowing God is with me. He holds my hand in every season of life. And by the grace of God, I will make it!❀

Are you the mom who resist change? Do you have a hard time adjusting to change? I’m right with you. Change can be overwhelming, but with God’s help, we can adjust to life’s ever-changing seasons. Trust the Lord!

Until next time…Happy Parenting!❀

✨Once again, times have changed, and we are approaching a new season in life. Here’s an update on my son since this post was originally written last August:Β

~After spending a year in college, my son has decided he wants to join the Army! I couldn’t be more proud of him (although I am a bit nervous…naturally!).

He’s always loved the military since he was a little boy. Please pray for his safety, and that God would direct his path as he begins this new journey.πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ
